Number 24

The careless indifference of my reckless beloved has destroyed me, and yet, on top of this, the beloved demands a blood-price from our very dwelling. We are the herald of silence, a child raised on a tongue not yet loosened; still, our inner clamor strikes hard against the ear of indifference.
Explanation: «Diyat» refers to the blood-price owed for a killing under Islamic law; the irony is that the beloved both kills the lover and then demands payment. The «child of silence» suggests feelings too deep or young to be spoken aloud, yet they still cry out.
