Ghazal 8
The pain of love is sweeter than good health;
the realm of poverty is sweeter than owning the world.
They value reason above all creation,
yet the mystics say that intoxication is sweeter.
Self-worship is born from wealth and rank;
letting go of the self and worshipping God is sweeter.
Since those weighed down move only with hardship,
traveling light and nimble is sweeter.
Saadi, since power and command never last,
living with empty hands is sweeter.
