In Praise of the Blessed Fakhr al-Din, the Astronomer

Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, for all that calls for gratitude, for the renewal of His gifts. He rescued the faith from the jaws of ravening dogs, and drew out pearls from the depths of His bounty. Through a leader whose reign gave Islam its victory, a triumph, and He excelled in raising His banners high. The refuge of the noble, Fakhr al-Din, our master, a lord whose vision leaves all imaginations far behind. No knot is untied except by his resolve, no calamity falls except upon his enemies. A whole crowd of the wise sing his praises, yet none among them praises him as he truly deserves. Had the Lord of all people not blessed Shiraz with him, the city could never have hoped to be cured of its sickness. So praise be to God, a praise beyond all measure, while all the worlds stand bewildered, unable to count His gifts. May he ever remain in blessings, with the Truth as his helper, by the right of every verse the Quran has gathered.
Explanation: This poem is written in Arabic and follows the classical panegyric form. The image of rescuing faith from 'ravening dogs' means saving religion from those who would tear it apart.
