Story No. 3

They saw Abdul-Qadir Gilani, may God's mercy be upon him, in the sanctuary of the Kaaba, his face pressed to the pebbles, saying: O Lord, forgive me! And if I truly deserve punishment, then raise me blind on the Day of Resurrection, so I will not stand ashamed before the righteous. Laying my face in the dust of my helplessness, I say each dawn when the breeze rises: 'You, whom I could never forget, does any thought of your servant ever cross your mind?'
Explanation: The prayer to be raised blind is a gesture of shame, not fear of pain: he cannot bear the righteous seeing his disgrace. The dawn breeze is a classic Persian image of intimacy and remembrance.
