Story 22

They tell of a worshipper who one night ate ten measures of food and then prayed until dawn, completing a full recitation of the Quran. A wise, discerning man heard of it and said: had he eaten just half a loaf and gone to sleep, he would have been far better off. Keep your insides empty of food, so that you may see in them the light of true knowledge. You are empty of any wisdom for this reason: you are stuffed with food right up to your nose.
Explanation: The point is a Sufi one: overeating fills the body but starves the soul, blocking the inner light of spiritual insight. A 'man' (mann) is an old unit of weight, exaggerated here for effect.
