This letter that I'm writing to you now, I write it with tears mixed with blood. I've written to you from this door before, but never with the burning pain I feel as I write now. To Azra I show the ache that Vameq bore; to Layla I describe the state of Majnun. My love, I don't even know how to set down the story of my own heart for you. Accept it, though I have no excuse to offer; read it kindly, though what I write is poor.
Explanation: Vameq and Azra, and Layla and Majnun, are famous pairs of tragic lovers in Persian tradition; the poet compares his own suffering to theirs.
