A Parable

What a fine thing the apprentice weaver said, as he wove figures of the phoenix, the elephant, and the giraffe: No design comes from my hands except the pattern my master sets from above. Whether your situation turns out good or bad, it is the hand of destiny that traces the design. There is a hidden kind of idolatry in saying, 'This man wronged me and that man hurt me.' If the Lord of command grants you sight, you will no longer see the faces of this man or that as the cause. I cannot believe that if a servant falls silent, God will strike his daily bread from the ledger. May the Maker of the world open the way for you, for if He shuts it, who can open it again?
Explanation: 'Zeyd and Amr' are Persian stand-ins for 'so-and-so,' meaning any given person; blaming them for one's fate is called hidden idolatry because it credits creatures rather than God.
