Majnun and the Truth of His Love

Someone said to Majnun: You who walk a good path, what has happened to you? Why don't you come to her tribe anymore? Has the passion for Layla left your head? Have you changed your mind, with no desire left? When the poor man heard this, he wept bitterly: Sir, let go of my sleeve, leave me be. My heart is already wounded and in pain; don't rub salt into my wound as well. Staying away is no proof that I've grown calm; it's only that a great distance was forced upon me. The man said: You faithful one, blessed in nature, if you have a message for Layla, tell it to me. He answered: Don't mention my name before my beloved; my name is unworthy of any place where she is.
Explanation: In couplet 5 Majnun insists that his absence is imposed by circumstance, not a sign that his love has cooled. The final line expresses his humility before the beloved.
