On Justice for the Oppressed

How would you ever hear the cry of one who begs for justice, when the roof of your bedroom rises to the stars? Sleep in such a way that if someone wronged raises a shout, the sound of their pain reaches your ears. When they cry out against the tyrant of your realm, know that every cruelty he commits is your cruelty. It was not the dog that tore the caravan's traveler, but the foolish farmer who raised the dog. You have spoken boldly, Saadi; since the blade is in your hand, win a victory. Say what you know, for it is best to speak the truth: take no bribe and offer no flattery. Close the door on greed and wash your page clean by wisdom; cut off desire, and say all that you know.
Explanation: 'Kayvan' means Saturn, the highest planet, an image of unreachable luxury. The blade in couplet 5 is a metaphor for the poet's power of speech.
