Ghazal: The Fire of Love

The burning of my love will set your soul on fire; it will burn all of you, the seen and the hidden. Beware the cold sigh and the burning heart: one of them freezes you, the other burns you. Do not try your tricks and schemes on someone who will burn you with a hundred tricks and schemes of his own. Do not light a candle with your own hand, for it will set your whole night, your whole bedroom, ablaze. What fire have you hidden under your skirt, that the same fire will scorch your collar? You gave your heart to my union, and I fear the torment of parting will suddenly burn you. It will do you no good when you finally say that this faithless Obeid has burned you.
Explanation: Obeid refers to the poet Obeid Zakani, who names himself in the closing line, a common convention in the final couplet of a ghazal. 'Faithless' here plays on the idea of a heartless, cruel lover.
