Wine or Nothing

As long as our jug isn't full of wine at home, there's no peace for us, no rest, no calm, no sleep. In a private room with wine, the cupbearer, and a beautiful face, there's no need for harp or lute or flute or fiddle. Cheer up your friends with wine while there's time; in our book, a life not spent in joy doesn't count at all. Here's the wine, and if you feel like washing up before prayer, use the pitcher, because there's no water in this house. For us, the realm of poverty and contentment is enough; we need no handout from any king who rules over slaves. Like Obeyd, tear down the house of your existence, because treasure is found only in the ruins.
Explanation: Obeyd refers to the poet Obeyd Zakani himself. The final image draws on the Persian idea that hidden treasure lies buried under ruins, so ruining the self reveals its true wealth.
