The Drunken Beloved

My beloved, tipsy and reckless, lifted the wine cup, and set a whole world spinning in tumult and uproar. The reflection of that sunlike beauty blazed across the world and seized all seven realms in its fire. When the morning breeze drifted through the curls of that hair, the whole garden filled with the scent of musk and amber. With every smoky sigh I breathed, a fire caught in the incense and the burner. My heart begged a kiss from that beloved, but how could such a plea ever take hold? Obayd, from the burning of his heart, kept telling the tale of that pain, again and again from the start.
Explanation: The 'Turk' in classical Persian poetry is a stock image of a strikingly beautiful, bold beloved, rendered here simply as the beloved. Obayd (Obayd-e Zakani) names himself in the final couplet, a common closing device.
