Ode 20: In Praise of the Same King
As long as time endures,
as long as the earth stands firm,
the king of the world, Abu Ishaq,
will rule triumphant across the earth.
Victory and conquest will always march
at your army's right hand and its left.
Every hope you place in God
will be returned to you tenfold, a hundredfold, a hundred thousandfold.
Wherever you wage war,
your enemy's fortunes will turn to ruin.
Whoever refuses to serve you
will be held prisoner by fate.
In every task, the effort is yours,
but the victory comes from the Creator.
If any slanderer exists under such a reign,
let it be only the musk pods of Tartary.
In such an age of justice, the only thing disordered
will be the curling locks of the beloved.
And if now and then some weakness falls upon us,
it will be gentle, like the breeze of spring.
This boldness of mine has gone too far now;
let me keep the rest brief with a prayer.
May your kingdom offer prayers to the heavens
as long as the heavens keep their turning.
