In Praise of Shah Sheikh Abu Ishaq

As long as the sun's shield keeps scattering gold across the sky, may it remain a slave to the shadow of the king's canopy. The world conqueror, the young and fortunate Sheikh Abu Ishaq, who is the king of the world for as long as the world lasts. It is fitting that anyone who is a servant of this triumphant king should raise his head to the heavens in pride. My lord, the aged sky itself longs to live under the protection of your youthful fortune. The humblest servant at this court outranks a thousand kings like Jamshid, Darius, and Ardavan. For the beggar and the pilgrim, your blessed pen unties the knots at the door of a royal treasure. Your world-crossing chestnut steed, swift as lightning, has victory as its attendant and good fortune riding beside it. In battle, when you drag enemies to your camp, no one turns his back to you, except perhaps in a mere thought. With blows of your heavy mace, crush the heads of your foes, as is the way of discerning kings. Like the curls and eyes of the beautiful, whoever stirs up trouble is left scattered and helpless by the king's justice. On the day of war, behold the prince's valor; for rarely does a king turn out to be a true warrior. Obeyd would gladly give his life at the dust of your majestic door, not just one life, but a thousand, if he had them. May your life endure, for sweeter than anything is eternal survival and everlasting fortune.
Explanation: Jamshid, Darius, and Ardavan are legendary and historical Persian kings, named here to say the king outshines even the greatest rulers. 'Obeyd' is the poet's own name (Obeyd Zakani).
