A Sudden Disaster

Maybe one day my joyless heart will find some happiness, but it seems unlikely that this cold, unloving one will ever grow kind. If any joy suddenly reaches my heart, it feels like a stranger arriving in a city, left homeless and lost. Judging by the trouble I see today from that bad-tempered one, it would be no surprise if it turned into the great catastrophe of the end of time. If this time the sky itself tried to lift my heart, it would never budge from its place, as helpless as I am. I thought a balm would heal my heart and make it well; how could I know it would become a sudden disaster for my soul? If I drink a single cup apart from your wine-red lips, right there it turns to blood and streams from my weeping eyes. Mohyi, swallow your sorrow before the madness for your curls rears its head, drives you insane, and disgraces you before the whole world.
Explanation: Mohyi is the poet's pen name, used in the closing couplet as is customary in the ghazal form. 'Wine-red lips' plays on the classic comparison of the beloved's lips to red wine.
