On the Knowledge of Hope

Out of his kindness, our God has made each quality of ours like a ball on his playing field. Every quality turns like a ball in play, yet its turning fits the shape of the field. His power is the mallet, his field our hope; this is how destiny was set from the beginning of time.
Explanation: The poem draws on the game of chogan (a form of polo): God is the player, his power the mallet, and human qualities are the balls he drives across the field of fate.
