In the Name of God
In the name of the Lord of the sun and moon,
whose name gave the heart its way to wisdom.
The Lord of all being and of truth,
who wants no crookedness or flaw from you.
The Lord of Mars, Saturn, and the sun:
from him comes my glad news, in him lies my hope.
I do not know how to praise him fully;
from the strain of the thought I would give up my life.
Through him place and time came into being;
even the ant's tiny track bears the mark of his existence.
From the turning sun down to the dark earth,
and the wind, the fire, and the pure water too,
they all bear witness to God's existence,
and make your soul know him.
He needs nothing of all he has created,
while in his kingdom you hold your head high.
From ministers and treasurers, from crown and throne,
from lack and abundance, from luxury and fortune,
he is free of every need, and we are his servants,
bowing our heads before his command and will.
He created night and day and the turning sky,
food and sleep, harshness and love.
Know no other as the high Creator,
for from him comes joy and from him comes sorrow.
For wonders in this world, Rostam is enough:
his story lives in everyone's heart.
The root of manhood and of war is his;
wisdom, knowledge, and steadiness are his.
On land like an elephant, at sea a crocodile,
wise, clear of heart, a man of firm resolve.
Now let us bring forward the battle of Kamus,
turning it from the old record into words of our own.
