Ardeshir Takes the Throne

When Ardeshir sat upon the royal throne, young and old came from every part of Iran. Many famous men, now aged with years, came to see how his words would turn out. Young Ardeshir began to speak, saying: You seasoned, experienced warriors, whoever takes his place on the royal throne must speak with an open tongue and worship God. We will follow the customs of the kings before us, and keep to glory and to the faith. May God's goodness and generosity be remembered; may every act and deed of ours be just. We will raise up all the devout, and drown the tyrants in their own blood. Many found peace in what he said, and from his calm each person gained their wish. I have handed the army to Piruz Khosrow, who delights in justice and rejoices in his king. When Iran has a champion like him, live on in joy, with bright and easy hearts.
Explanation: 'Fere' (farr) is the divine royal glory believed to legitimize Persian kings; here rendered as 'glory.'
