The Reign of Tus

Then the Magi gathered in council and set a king upon the throne. The king of the Nozar line, whose name was Tus; the wise Herodotus called him Deioces. He came and took his seat in royal majesty, a king devoted to justice and to learning. He raised the banner of Kaveh, with abacus, with elephants and golden slippers. He had all the towers made crimson and gold, gleaming like gold and silver and lapis blue. For his spirit was bright and watchful, worthy of justice and of wisdom. He brought a fire temple from Balkh and kept the rites of the Sadeh festival. He asked for a daughter from the city of Deioces, once the great work was firmly settled in his hands. From her came noble Fariborz, whom they call Phraortes son of Deioces. In a time of greatness a new king arose; I think it was Siavash who reigned. How sweet was the blessed time of great Tus, when at dawn even the wolf drank from the same water in peace.
